About Carina Collins and her experiences with CranioSacral Therapy.
As I sit here writing in March of 2008 at my CranioSacral Therapy Cork Clinic, I realise just how much has happened to bring me to this point over the last 25 years of my work experience.
First, a Bit of Pre-History... In 1982, I qualified as Teacher in the Irish Junior Cycle Education system. For the next 16 years I enjoyed working with children of all ages between four and twelve. To complete the cycle, I now have some of my ex-students return with their own infants and children for CranioSacral Treatments!
I had my first child, Evan, in 1991. A bonny, bouncing baby boy. I must say that I delighted in nurturing Evan as an infant and seeing him grow stronger and smarter day-by-day. In 1993, Rosaleen arrived. A mini blonde-bombshell! It was amazing to experience the different characters in babies.
In 1996 I woke up one night in severe pain. I was rushed to the hospital where I had an emergency operation. It turned out that I had an ectopic pregnancy and had narrowly avoided bleeding to death. It was only over the next number of years that myself and Mike (my husband) realised the effect such a sad event has upon our lives and the need for the body to heal over time.
I now realise that it is through my own direct experiences with the natural cycles of life and the complications that may follow – that have lead me to explore holistic and complementary ways of supporting women, men, infants, babies and children through these cycles.
My Formal Qualifications When I lived in Woking, Surrey in the UK in 1995 I attended the Guildford College where I received a Certificate in Counselling. In 1998 I truly started my formal education in Bodywork and healing with training and certification in:
And, of course, CranioSacral Therapy (I am an Upledger-qualified CranioSacral Therapist).
Back to the Present... Even though I now specialise in CranioSacral Therapy, I have found that experiencing all of the above has given me a tremendous “feel” for working with people in a holistic manner and a very good idea of what really works for which condition.
I now practice CranioSacral Therapy in my purpose-built clinic at “Croí Bán” (prounounced "cree bawn" - the Irish for Pure Heart). This is approximately 25 minutes from the Centre of Cork City, Ireland – but a world apart. I am based on 7 acres of beautiful green land running down to a woods and streams.
