Acid Reflux During Pregnancy.

Acid reflux is the frequent regurgitation of acid from the stomach. Normally the acidic contents of the stomach are prevented from returning to the mouth by a small valve at the top of the stomach. However, during pregnancy, a special relaxing hormone in the body causes this valve/flap to become lax. Added to this is the pressure of the expanding foetus on the diaphragm and stomach.

A common symptom of acid reflux during pregnancy is heartburn (pyrosis) which many women begin to experience during their second trimester.

In my clinical practice, I see clients throughout the stages of their pregnancy and have found that CranioSacral Therapy is most beneficial in helping them to adjust to the natural changes occuring in their bodies. With CranioSacral Therapy, I am not using drugs or external force and so it is an ideal gentle touch therapy during pregnancy to assist the natural healing forces within the body.

I also find that it is useful to provide pregnant clients suffering from acid reflux with advice and direction on posture, avoidance of certain foods, and gentle stretching exercises to complement their CST treatments.

I have seen deep changes facilitated in one or two sessions while for others the treatment might continue for longer. Each case needs to be assessed on it's own merits.

Please feel free to Contact myself for an initial appointment or to find out more.
