The Crainosacral Therapy Clinic. Oysterhaven (Kinsale) and Cork City
by Maggie Gliksten Craniosacral Therapist
(Co. Cork, Ireland)
Hi there, my name is Maggie Gliksten and I have been working in the Complementary Therapy sector for the past 20 years. My initial training being as a hydrotherapist where I was employed in the disability sector, mainly doing paediatrics, although I also did a great deal of rehabilitation of herniated disc in backs, knee replacements, hip replacements, stroke rehabilitation etc.
I re-trained in Craniosacral Therapy because of an accident, and had heard a lot about CST and decided that I would take a further look.
I was at once taken by the fact that no force was employed in the use of the therapy, and by the amazing results that it could produce. It reminded me very much of working in water.
As a CST practitioner, I work largely with the dural membrane system and the cerebral spinal fluid. So here again I was in fluid (except no longer immersed and working with the fluid on the outside). I was now working with fluid on the inside. Much more effective.
Along with my private work, I still work 3 days a week in the disability sector in Cork that is dedicated to the treatment of disabled children and adults.
I treat babies and small children with Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Spina Bifida and many, many more anomalies and genetic expressions. I am a member of a multi-disciplinary, early intervention team.
I have rooms for my private practice in Grange, Cork and in Oysterhaven (close to Kinsale). In this private practice I facilitate people towards healing and would see clients with all sorts of back-related problem, sports injuries etc. to chronic situations like arthritis, asthma, eczema and so on.
I hold the highest qualification attainable in the Upledger school of Craniosacral Therapy- namely the Diplomat (CST-D. I am also qualified in the method of Craniosacral Therapy called Somato Emotional Release (SER). By using CST, tissue memory can be triggered and trauma that has been held in the body, sometimes since birth, can be release and the body can then get on with the business of healing, and living a fuller life. Both bodily and emotionally.
I have published two papers, dealing with Craniosacral Therapy and its effectiveness in regard to disability. One in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine (Vol 13 no 9 - Nov 07) and in the Fulcrum magazine, which is the publication for the Craniosacral Trust in the U.K.
I am actively involved in the training of new students coming into the profession, and run study weekends several time a year. I encourage, and facilitate students towards taking their examinations. I am also involved in the promotion and standards of Craniosacral Therapy in Ireland, by being the chairperson of the Irish Association for Craniosacral Therapy (IACST) for the last couple of years.
Finally, I hold a qualification in Reflexology and am a member of the National Register of Reflexologists of Ireland. Treatments of Reflexology that are carried out by a registered member of NRRI are covered by the major Irish health insurers. Now that's a plus. I find the combination of Reflexology and Craniosacral Therapy formidable in the relief and correction of many health problem.
